ATH 912 - Stretching for Sports

Flexibility is essential for individuals who want to perform well in sports, maintain the benefits of fitness, and reduce their risk of injury. During this course, participants will learn why individuals lose flexibility and how they can regain and maintain it through a safe, effective stretching program. Participants will learn how to test an athlete’s range of motion for all major joints using simple tests. Then they will learn a stretching routine for each muscle group using several hundred stretches proven to increase and maintain optimal flexibility for athletic performance. This course will teach the participants how to stretch properly using both static and ballistic stretching. The participants will also learn what happens to the body during stretching by addressing the physiological changes in simple but accurate terms.

Credit: 3-semester units college credit
Fees: $400 ($375 tuition + $25 fees) - Students are required to purchase the text separately.
