ATH 911 - Cross Training for Sports

Excelling in any sport requires the athlete to achieve and maintain high-level conditioning without over-training. All athletes need strength, power, quickness, and flexibility in order to successfully compete but most don’t know how to achieve this year-round. This course will explore how to add new training methods to the athlete’s current program. The best aerobic, anaerobic, strength, power, speed, endurance, agility, balance, and flexibility exercises for many sports will be illustrated and fully explained. This knowledge will assist the participant in creating new and improved sport programs. The course will benefit coaches and fitness enthusiasts by assisting them in developing personalized training programs to target areas for improvement. Finally, the participant will learn about the training principles involved in cross-training along with the energy needs for various sports.

Credit: 3-semester units college credit
