Coaching Courses

  1. Coaching Basketball (ATH-920)
    Learn how to teach the technical and tactical skills of basketball. An important focus is on skill demonstration and error detection as participants learn to develop practice plans and complete other assignments to apply the learning immediately...in class or on the court! Following completion of the online portion offered through Human Kinetics, the students will then work through the application portion of the material where they begin to apply what they have learned.
  2. Coaching Track & Field (ATH-925)
    Learn the fundamentals of coaching the various events in track and field. Perform a detailed study on an event category of your choosing and create a detailed training program for an athlete competing in that event category. Course objectives are modeled after standards-based learning objectives for teachers and for coaches as outlined by the Society of Health and Physical Education (SHAPE America), and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).
  3. Coaching Cross Country (ATH-926)
    Enhance your knowledge base related to coaching cross country at the middle school level and above. Course objectives are modeled after standards-based learning objectives for teachers and for coaches as outlined by the Society of Health and Physical Education (SHAPE America), and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). The course is project based including creating a training program and home management system.
  4. Coaching Swimming (ATH-927)
    Discover fundamental and advanced principles in a format that is appropriate for all levels of swimmers, from the beginner to the most seasoned veteran. Be exposed to a wide variety of coaching methods and learn training principles, racing strategies and aquatic safety. Course objectives are modeled after standards-based learning objectives for teachers and coaches as outlined by the Society of Health and Physical Education (SHAPE America).
